my 2 inch hatchling YBS stays in the water(has been dong this for awhile) and my new(just got him yesterday 1 inch YBS stays on the log. i have no heater in the water and the water is a constant 75 degrees i checked the water and it is fine. any ideas?

Usaully they will stay in the water when we are around because they are afraid. They feel safe in the water. Maybe the new one already feels safe and has no problem basking when you are around. The other one probably comes out of the water but only when no one is around.

Possibilities:
- Overcrowding and stress/aggression- we recommend 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length to avoid this, so they should be in a 30 gallon tank for now.

- New turtle is stressed by the change. We often see this in new animals- let it get used to things for about a week and see how it is going.

- New turtle does not like water conditions for some reason- used to warmer, cooler, cleaner, dirtier water

etc.
