how do i (or what )find out what engine type is my vauxhall astra club 1.6 8 valve w reg 2000

The V.I.N. number has all that information encoded into it. Check the manufacturers site for the coding format. The information should also be in a manufacturer's service manual; if you know a mechanic you might be able to find it there.
