I was just putting my winter tires on and when I was done and I moved the car, I noticed a very loud metal to metal noise in the left front wheel. I took it back apart and thought it was the metal shield behind the rotor. Upon furthur investigation, It seems that when I tighten the lug nuts, they rub on something inside the rotor I think, making this loud noise. It's like the nuts are too long or something, but they are the same ones that were on before. So now I'm not going to drive it until I find out what it is, and I really can't afford to put any money into it. The car is a 91 BMW 3 series if it matters. Please help!

Check that you have the correct wheels. Remove the wheel from the side that was rubbing. Check the inside of the rim. It may be contacting the caliper.

Check the wheel and the bolt holes carefully. Something is different or damaged>
