infact male and female are two halves in this creation. mythology, sciences, sociology every branch of knowledge reiterates this.

mating of males and females propogate this creation. had there been no rules of mating there would have been a chaos at the social level.

to avoid this chaos the societies laid down the rules of marriage. therefore the marriage is a creation of social rules and is not a natural development.

therefore marriages are convenience tools of society and not of nature. therefore marriages are infact unnatural.

I don't think marriage keeps you from getting lonely, but I also do not believe it is unnatural. I have been married 3x's. Kept getting married even though I hated it. Until husband #3. It has been almost 9 years and now I understand what a great thing marriage can be. It isn't so much about love as it is about commitment to support and be loyal to on another,. It can be a bind that makes you feel safe, secure and grounded. I really did not understand until now (and it took me along time) that making a real true commitment to another human being and not breaking it (mutually) is incredible.

Yes I believe in marriage, but then I have been married to a man, who I adore, for 22 years. I think its personal choice and for me, had nothing to do with religion, but everything to do with commitment. I think from another perspective, marriage has become very commercialised. A wedding can cost so much money, which can run into thousands of pounds and lots of couples (in their opinions) cant afford to get married. I had a beautiful white wedding on a budget. It wasn't any less exciting and had no bearing on the outcome. That speaks for itself. In today's world, it is beginning to look unusual, but not unnatural. What did you mean by unnatural?

No, I don't believe marriage is natural. Take a look at other mammals....only 3 percent are monogamous, and that includes primates and man.
Marriage is more a social contract than a natural state of living.
Oh, I'm explaining this badly. Marriage has been ritualized to the point of stupidity. The church says you must be married, in a church ceremony with a minister/priest/whatever as the representative of God on earth to seal the union. The state gets its pockets lined also because in order to marry, you must make an application to the state, pay for it, then get married.
Its all so absurd. Monogamy need not be based on law, either of church or man. Monogamy, the want and desire to remain with a single mate, so different and distinct from marriage, is the condition of having only one mate during the breeding life of a pair. Why should people who are no longer bound by common purpose, goals, be forced to remain in a relationship that has outlived its purpose? I know, that's what divorce is for....and there's the topper to it all. If marriage was such a perfect estate for man, and so natural, then why are divorces increasing, exponentially, every year?

The ceremonial relates to the super-natural. A law that specifies ceremonial details, details that are thousands of years "old", has its origin in something beyond the civil. In nature we have ample evidence for coupling. It is not evident, however, that nature sanctifies the act, or any human/animal act for that matter, hence the ceremonial. Something is thought to be outside nature.

Although I am married, I can accept the fact that marriage is a societal construct that doesn't have many parallels in the lives of other animals and indeed it doesn't occur in every society. I don't think it's natural or necessary to stave off loneliness.

Yes I believe in marriage. Nobody likes to feel lonely and what better way to avoid lonliness then to promise to spend the rest of your life with someone special.

marriage if perfectly natural. we mate for life just as the wolf do, it is in our instincts. some rules in society are unnatural, marriage is something that came into being all on its own by our instincts and is therefor perfectly natural.
