it eliminates a news event . and elevate another into the news. by his actions

I think it's unlikely.
I tend to go by Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is the most likely to be true. Of course, there are actual conspiracies in the world, but there are many, many more things that are simply exactly what they seem to be. For every Watergate, there are hundreds of quirks of fate that subtly disrupt life, for better or for worse.
A troubled man committed a criminal act. That's about it. No more, no less. And if it isn't, we'll know eventually.

nicely, wikipedia says a guy by utilising the call of Limahl sang it... says is his diploma call/actual call is Christopher Hamill.. although I even have that music that and it appears like a woman to me..
