The BCS is there to make money. If you don't have that, then a LOT of folks lose some big money.
Sorry to say, but Hawaii had a weak schedule. They only played one ranked team all year. They barely beat Fresno State and Nevada. It's not necessarily their fault; not a lot of teams want to go there for home games.
If they based the team rankings on total wins, no matter who the team plays, you could have mediocre teams playing crappy teams to go undefeated. Is that fair? Not really.

Hawaii is in the WAC. The are along the same lines as the Sun Belt Conference. Neither conference really plays anyone and they aren't in a BCS conference. Now if they were to be part of the PAC 10, they'd get more respect and they might be ranked #1 right now.

Based on what they say makes the case for or against you, they probably should be in. They won their games and that's all they can do. They scheduled big name schools that backed out of the game in the off-season. All they can do is beat who is in front of them and they have done that; Which is more than could be said for every single team ahead of them. I am not one of those people that feels like the quality of a team can be measured by their conference. That is BS and that has been proven all year. I think that HU offense is designed to force favorable matchups (linebackers on wideouts, safeties on wideouts, etc.) that they can exploit whether it be on a WAC team or an SEC one. It's about matchups and I think that Hawaii deserves that shot. I have already said that the big guys have been getting beat up by the little guys, but the little guys get no credit for beating up on other little guys. No fair! Why not give the nod to a little guy that has done with the big guys could not...win their games??? I do not for one second beleive they are one of the two best teams, but if the system is supposed to work and they are willing to jump a two loss team (LSU) over five other teams that are more desrving (in my opinion), let the system work for the small schools too. Let em play!

The BCS is not "messed up." Does it mean that we need some sort of playoff system in place, possibly. But I think this controversy is great for college football, it brings in the fans, media, and MOST IMPORTANTLY it brings in lots of MONEY, which university presidents and AD love!
A playoff system also favors the big confrences and power house teams, the BCS has helped level the playing field (sometimes unfair to the bigger schools and big teams) to let confrences with teams like Hawaii, Boise, BYU, make it in the spotlight every so often.
BTW- why is Hawaii not getting the respect? well, it's a scheduling issue, Hawaii has played only one ranked team and one team from a big named conference, both games were fairly close) you can't get respect with a schedule that doesn't feature more teams from a major conference. I know, their schedule is basically fixed, but the BCS has to take that into account, if not then teams will play Div. IAA schools and crush them so they can put an easy win on their schedule(OPPS except for Michigan!)

Hawaii has problems getting people to play them in non-conference games. They're a talented team, and from the perspective of people in my part of the country, they seem to be every bit as good as, say, Vanderbilt. That's a long way from major BCS respect, though, and I don't know that their AD has a way to improve things. They'll have to figure a way to schedule somebody before they're taken seriously.

I love college football. I go for LSU. It has always been that way. The way they rank teams are so unfair. And i also think it is unfair on who gets to go to bowls. Notice how all the popular teams get to go to the bowls even if some of them have sucked worse to the little community college teams. Its just been like that. I think that they should do it like Pro football. Wereyou have playoffs to see who is actually better then who. Not this Rose Bowl Sugar Bowl Orange Bowl Big Bobbys Drive in Bowl etc.
Oh yeah and about hawaii....who have yall played???
Becsuse if yall are undefeated because yall have played a bunch of unranked sissy teams then the whole "undefeated" thing shouldnt get much pride. but like i said it depends who yall have played...

Because they are biased USC lost 2 games but won their conference and they are talking about allowing a 2 loss Georgia team that didn't play for their conference championship. Then they are talking about allowing LSU who lost to 2 unranked opponents. The West is getting screwed again. it should be Hawaii, then USC and then LSU in that order. At least USC lost to Oregon who was ranked 4th at the time, but turned around and beat a #7 ranked Arizona St.
