Has Christmas gone too commercialised in your opinion, such as selling products which are normally at an all-time low the rest of the year but suddenly come at a premium around Christmas time? I think the true meaning of Christmas was lost a long time ago and personally think it's just an excuse for companies to make more money - but am I being too synical about all of it?!

I see what everyone means (kitkat especially) about all of the true meanings of Christmas. I think it may just be a thing I've got because I've had to work with Christmas-related stuff within my website design work since around September so it feels like it should be over already lol

AWAL: Sorry, I didn't mean to cause any offence by using "Xmas" instead of "Christmas" - I ran out of room in the question part :(

Xmas is not a holiday, CHRISTmas is celebration of Christ's birth. When people, and stores substitute X for Christ name this upsets me, as this is at the root of the over commercialization of this special day.

i aint a baa humbug, i gotta admit i luv xmas, i'm like a big kid an im lookin forward to it, but in another way im not. i completley agree wiv ya. i think it is way to commercialised and for companies, it just another way of ripping people off!!! it all about makin as much money as poss nowadays, the spirit of xmas has gone i think. and i agree, things which we wouldnt usually buy, which we sometimes do at xams are twice the price than they are at rest of year. they shouldnt be able to do tht! i think it stinks! christmas should be about what it is about, christ, although i aint exactly religious, being wiv family n friends, helping the poor etc n communities getting together helping each other to celebrate this nice time of yr, but it now bout prezzies n where eva u go, sum 1 is trying to sell ya summat to do wiv xmas which ya dont need n are just out der to get ya n ripp ya off 4 ur gd. hope dat meks sense. the true meaning n spirit has gone!!!!

We don't let all the commercialism come near our house. Christmas is a time for the family to get together and bake, make Christmas decorations, and generally just get ready for the big day. Come Christmas Eve we have tons of food for all our friends and family, then it is off to midnight mass. Christmas morning we have just the immediate family over to exchange gifts. It's all about the family around here. Christmas is what we make of it so instead of being so Bah Hum Bug make Christmas what you want it to be for you and yours...

The hype of the Christmas season are beyond recognition, it`s about gifts and money, no royal enjoyment. On the other hand, I`m ready to do some major shopping.

I agree with what you said but we keep ours a sensible family thing & "just make it" special for us with the true meaning. I set up my grand parents Nativity & remind our grand daughters what it meant Jesus Birthday .
