Yesterday, a particularly cold night. (I was only wearing PJ's and a thin denim jacket) I caused a minor collision with the car in front of me, at a stop light. The car I bumped was a 2004-2006 Red Mustang.

We pulled over and decided not to get insurance involved. The lady said that she was advised to settle for $100 bucks and that she would eat whatever (if any) difference.

There was damage to the top of her fender, which I believe was fiberglass. About 3-5 inches of black scrapes that didn't seem to come off when we tried to buff them. They may have been a bit deep. There was obvious scratches to the bottom fender, that were a little deeper than those previously mentioned. Of course, I got it in writing that no further action would be pursued.

It was certainly a gamble to settle on the spot. I believe there was a greater chance that the cost would have been larger if she got quotes first, what do you think?

There were no actual dings, as in nothing seemed concaved, just scratches.

Sounds as if that would be about a $700.00 - $900.00 job for a body shop. You came out "smelling like a rose"

Who knows, she may work in a body shop, or her boyfriend/husband/partner/son/relative does.

Some people can assess how much they can make you pay and if they conclude "not much" or "not worth the hassle" will settle for doing a good deed of the day, which is making you pay tenth of the cost of the damage.

She was the one who took the gamble by taking pity on you. She may have her reasons, and whatever they were, thank God, your lucky stars, and her for letting you off the hook for only a hundred dollars. All she probably hopes is that the incident will make you learn to be a better driver. "Causing a minor collision is quite a euphemism" Lol. Rear enders are almost always 100 percent the rear drivers fault usually caused by tailgating, careless driving, and not paying attention.

dont be surpised if you see someone comming to your door about damages to a car and want payment from your insurance. its best to get insurances involved becasue what will stop this person from going to the cops and say a person rear ended me and too off. then you say we settled for 100 bucks and that person will be like dont know what you talking about. as i tried to flag you down and you took off. so was that 100 dollar gamble worth it?

You got lucky, for a $ 100 its tough to repair even a small door ding.

maybe she had been drinking and didn't want to get the police involved even though it was your fault, you made out good and now there is no way she can come back on you as there is no police report.
