Just ask yourself would you want it any other way?
Anything that's worth having is worth working for.
Nought comes easy.
Do you need a holiday?

I feel that the conclusion you ended up with is erroneous. I think that you work hard for other reasons
Pushing yourself- is working hard, and applying yourself. Doing more work than necessary, working more than the minimum requirement
Your reasons are usually simple, and "To feel a sense of achievement" would not even be close.
In fact, if you ask many people will cite reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with getting a "sense of achievement". Whenever you see that phrase in a resume, toss that resume out of the pile! .Lol
Here is a list of realistic, believable replies;.
1. To catch the attention of the boss, to get into his/her good books.
2. To catch the attention of the customer, to get the business.
3. To master the job, to excel.
4. You are a workoholic.
5. It is your "slave" gene. You are wired to work.
6. Your idea of success is based on the premise of hard work.

i dont anymore, in fact maybe i should push a little harder sometimes
i find i am able to feel achievement over small things, making a small effort, perhaps this is because i now break almost everything down into steps, steps to achieve in order to achieve a goal, so then the sense of achievement comes with completing each step, or even trying to complete it

It comes naturally. You don´t even know that you are pushing yourself. When you are motivated to achieve something, you do it with excitement. It is not tedious hard yakka.

Not sure if that is applicable all the time, sometimes nice things happen that have nothing to do with me. In answer to question, anything that I get easy, I let it go easy. You get out of life what you put into it. Does that help?
