The best Christmas dinner I never had was one year when my mother hosted the family - about 25, in all, counting ankle-biters and rug rats - for dinner. So many people, rented a tent for the back yard and had the "affair" catered.

As usual, when most of the 6 sons in the family are together, "The Beast" had been born and was already working its phsycic horror on the gathering. Ron started it, asking if youngest brother "Joe-wee-wee" still wet his bed. Then Sis made the unfortunate, if somewhat also undiplomatic, observation that the mashed potatoes were too lumpy.

Well, Mom couldn't have her kids taking the center stage. So she filled her spoon with those lumpy 'taters and catapulted them at Sis. An hour later after everyone was hosed off, they went down to Denny's to eat.

Got any good yarns about YOUR Mom and holiday food fights?

EDIT: I lived in Berlin, Germany, at the time and missed this memorable excuse for a family fightin' Merry Christmas.

No, since we buried my mother, she she stopped putting up any kind of fight. :) LOL.

Great family you have there. My kids would do it in a heartbeat but I would not be happy if I had spent all day cooking and I always set a lovely table. Soooo.....Let's do it at YOUR house, I'm up for that.

Peace.

P.S. One time when my dad was shaving I went into the bathroom to get a towel. I was about 8 and my dad was 6'3" and a solid 220, he got a lot of respect, especially when he was hanging out with his construction crew. Anyway, dad made the BIG mistake of flicking a little water in my face. So I went and got a bucket of water and waited for him to finish his nightly ritual in the bathroom, sss, took about an hour. When he came out of the bathroom SPLASH, the entire bucket on him. He ran for the bathroom glass, I ran for the kitchen sink...by the time we were done the living room, dining room and kitchen drapes were plastered to the windows and my step-mother was in tears, good thing she had her best friend Budweiser with her. Anyway, good thing my dad had a sense of humor, or I would've been grounded FOREVER. LOL.

I'll tell you the story of how I tricked him with a cracked egg once too. Later. LOL.
