Do you know why our government is relatively safe from what the founding fathers suggested? Its because of the internet. In the 60s when citizens were becoming more and more agitated by the actions of government, there was no open forum where they could anonymously vent and demand violent action. They could publicly protest but if that failed then they were left with dark rooms and plots. It didn't go that far for the most part because the government recognized the hostile environment and complied with the people.
Now days, if you see injustice you talk about it on the internet. Other people agree with you but talk is all that happens. Because no one but an idiot would seriously plot revolution on a public forum and trust those who answer. We do not protest on the large scale because we can satisfy some of our frustration by venting here.
The internet generates a sort of apathy. With multitudes of people complaining we become use to it and pay it little mind. It may just be the greatest enabler of tyranny in the history of our world.

Because the media drives popular opinion, which drives Washington into doing something about it. When a Republican gets caught committing a crime, or there is some hanky panky going on in an election, it's seen as it should be, it makes front page news, the person gets prosecuted or thrown out of office. Same goes if a republican just says something politically incorrect. Look at the heat Trent Lott took by giving that 100 year old guy a compliment. Meanwhile Robert Byrd says "******" twice in one paragraph on national television and nothing happens. When a democrat gets caught commiting a crime, It's seen as cute and humorous.

Berger is a dem. They are held to lower standards. Therefore when they commit a crime, people shrug.

Also, most people in the media are dems and hushed it up, so most citizens probably don't even know about it.
