Theoretically yes. but in practice for the most part no.

The main reason seems to be, fairly or unfairly that women are not taken seriously in high powered jobs. Only time will resolve this problem...As more and more women are successful then so will more be taken seriously.

Another major factor is perhaps only a perceived one. I hear a lot where I work from women (and the Unions) that my workplace is sexist because I have been there 20+ years and am in a higher position than most women who started around the same time as me.

What they don't mention is that during those 20 years the women have almost all taken three or four years out to have children. Thus they have three or four years less experience.

This is a life choice and if women choose family over a career then they must accept that to do so will in the majority of cases hold their career back.

Please note that this is not my opinion of how things should be, simply my observations of how things are.

Way too many factors, like education, confidence, intelligence, common sense, class, race, ethnic background, etc

But if all was equal, I still think in the majority of cases, men still have the edge. There are companies that discriminate against men, others that are fairly equitable, but I think people in power still have sexist ideas about men and women. I think it's changing, but as seen by this forum, there also is a backlash.

btw: For those that are going to say there's laws against it, there's laws against embezzling and theft, and look how much that goes on every day in the business world.

For those that say they can sue, the Supreme Court just made a decision regarding the reporting of gender discrimination in the workplace that limits lawsuits to the point that they won't take place in the future. Employees have to prove gender discrimination within the first 180 days of employment, no matter how long they were employed before they found out about the unequal pay. Since the majority of companies hide their pay scales, and actually require employees to sign agreements not allowing pay discussions, and employers can fire employees for discussing pay, it's unlikely gender discrimination lawsuits will take place in future, unless congress passes legislation to allow reporting to take place in a more reasonable time frame.

Depends on the business that they are in. If the business promotes diversity then they both have an equal chance if they meet the qualifications of the job.

Crazy, but true, women are considered a minority (perhaps in a business owner sense) and there are special promotions and loans etc. for small business owners who are women.....as incentive to get more women to take the risk....with our small company, the wives are actually 50/50 owners and the husbands are employees. However, we've actually never filled out the paperwork with the govt. that would officially allow us to label ourselves as minority owned....

No, women have better chances. The reason is, because of womens lib, women can do male jobs and have have careers etc. And of course women can do typically female jobs.

However, if a male wants to do a job that isn't typically male, he will have a harder time.

Absolutely not. I work in Social Work, a female dominated field - overwhelmingly female dominated. Yet, if you look at the percentages of female executive directors at social service agencies, these are overwhelmingly male. If Social Work can't figure it out, corporate American certainly can't.

nope. women have more chances . because women can use charm . mostly men looses to women this generation specially businesss. and girls are very talented when it comes in promoting and thinking unique products
