So many anaemic and starved looking models all over the place. How did that become a benchmark or standard for being beautiful?

I keep thinking about this and have no idea why anyone would think it's a good thing.
A lot of guys don't seem to like girls looking that skinny, but models are still expected to look like that.
When my daughter was 12, people were already telling me that she was model material and I should get her started as a model. Just knowing what they do to models and expect of models kept me from even thinking of signing her up to try for modeling.
The sad part is a lot of teenage girls actually think they need to look like those models and worry about gaining a few pounds.
I wonder what it would take to change those standards and not allow anyone to make models follow rules that keep them looking that skinny? I am sure people must already realize that there are also health issues with being that skinny.
I hope more girls will wisen up to the fact that it isn't good and doesn't really make them beautiful. Maybe it has to start at home with the parents?

that's only impressed upon girls who feel ugly and think that since models are thin, starving oneself will make them beautiful...models are tall and thin and still in proportion because it's the form that makes the clothes look beautiful....it's not the media's fault...it's a consequence of freedom of expression so in order to resolve this problem...we have to educate girls in school to socialize differently and stop pursuing meaningless things which don't make you beautiful...umm, hello? just coz your thin you're beautiful? that's not anything to be proud of...education in its purest form would entail teaching girls to pursue their goals and contribute to society. How does an anorexic girl contribute to the betterment of society?

I don't know, but I think it's on the ugly side to look like bones with skin draped over them. Freaky! Fat isn't pretty either. Just somewhere in between, or just right is nice.
