What do you think of having hidden cameras in very high crime areas ?
Lets face it cameras are all over, from Times Square to beaches to parking lots you could probably view it but areas where we could really use cameras to protect innocent people from thugs they arent there . If its infringement , what about all the victims assumption that this isn't going to happen to them where they feel safe, innocent social people should have more rights than someone who won't follow the law.

You can look to London as an example of how cameras have
reduced crime, and the prosecution rate has increased because of video . I'm all for it.what is an infringement of civil
liberties is the illegal wire tapping on American citizens currently in place.

Well... I disagree with the first answer because, he showed no human compassion. (Whos gonna jump in and stop the rape?) COME ON! At least if there were a camera there would be some kind of PROOF. And maybe.. just maybe these sickos would be behind bars where they belong instead of doing this crap OVER and OVER !
I think Cameras in a KNOWN crime area are a GREAT idea even though it will NEVER happen. Who's gonna pay for them when the rapist or thief or dealer shoots them all out? The government?? YEAH RIGHT! The things would prolly all be stolen the very first day they were put up. BUT .. at least your mind is thinking about somehting productive! Keep goin.. you might be the person to figure out HOW to make it work! Good job!

It's safe to go, just be informed. Most of the crime happens in the places where tourists wouldn't (or at least shouldn't) go. Leave any gaudy jewelry at home, bring fashion jewelry instead. You won't miss out on anything by avoiding those places. You can even take a guided tour of the favelas (shanty towns) if you want. It's not really my thing so I don't strongly recommend it but some people like to see it and I never heard bad stories from it. From what I heard the people who live in the favelas go out of their way to make sure you leave with a good impression (besides of course the shock of how poor it is). One recommendation: beware of Copacabana. I doubt your life is at risk in that neighborhood, but your belongings are. Petty thieves know the neighborhood is flooded with tourists who may not know better than to go to the beach with a nice watch or gold jewelry. Still, it's an absolute MUST SEE, but I would recommend staying in Ipanema instead, and bringing no valuables when you visit Copacabana (except some cash for souveniers, it's a good place to buy them). As for months, April-September are mild and have little rainfall. The summer months are November-March.

You can't worry yourself of others that can't follow the Law nor their bad Behavior.
The Cameras are up to find where the crime is.
There is not enough Police to be everywhere.
Just like stored have cameras.
The only place where NO cameras are placed is in Public Washrooms.
Thats the Law

1st... everyone should learn martial arts to defend themselves

2nd.. Everywhere there are cameras, there should be people on the street. What good is a camera if a woman is being raped? will it jump in and stop the rape? or would it be better to have real people there to stop the crime before harm can be done?

I'm sure there are in some places. Effective foot patrol seems to make more sense to me with a visible police presence a bigger deterance

I don't understand why people are willing to give up their privacy because of criminals.

Wouldn't it be better to punish the criminals? Murderers should be given the death penalty. Rapists, thieves, pedophiles and other criminals should be given really long prison sentences to take them off the streets.

I don't think they should be hidden but should be in plain site.
It will deter people from committing a crime.

I'm all for cameras - if your not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about.
