What could have caused this?
Did he spontaneously combust?
I've heard this can happen in humans but never heard of it happening to a lizard.

Are You Serious? No it had nothing to do with the Fabric or a "burts of light"?? whats up with that?? Chances are it was impacted from something it ate. Have you seen it go to the bathroom on a regular basis? Was it really fat looking? It would be more likley that it was suffering for a while and the stress of you taking it out of the cage was enough to make it insides burst from not being able to pass stools. ( poop) or if their were a bunch of white tic tac looking things those would be eggs and that also could have caused it, being imacted with eggs ( eggbound) could also make this happen. Sorry for your loss.

some times its the fabric or did u expose it to light . sudden shots of light or a light source can sometimes cause them to just die, collapse or stop breathing but the exploding its the 1st time iv heard of a chameleon doing that and no human dont explode lol unless they swallow a bomb (sorry for your loss) but the best thing to do is buy a different blanket with a different fabric and if you do buy another chameleon try not to expose it to the light to much especially not like a rave (lights flashing on n off ) sudden bursts.

I would really look into this and if you find out some information on this then please let us know. That sounds really disturbing and I have never heard of anything like that happening. Def go ask a vet or someone and maybe bring them the Chameleon if you still have it and did not discard it.
Very interesting and would love to know the answer to this one.
