7 answers

4x - y = 11
or
4x - y - 11 = 0

Depends upon definition of standard form.

y = 4x - 11 is considered to be in standard form in some texts.

Standard form is

Ax + By = C,

where A, B, and C are integers whose greatest common factor is 1, A and B are not both equal to zero and, A is non-negative. The standard form can be converted to the general form, but not always to all the other forms if A or B is zero.

General Form is

Ax + By + C = 0

where A and B are not both equal to zero. The equation is usually written so that A ≥ 0, by convention. The graph of the equation is a straight line, and every straight line can be represented by an equation in the above form. If A is nonzero, then the x-intercept, that is the x-coordinate of the point where the graph crosses the x-axis (y is zero), is −C/A. If B is nonzero, then the y-intercept, that is the y-coordinate of the point where the graph crosses the y-axis (x is zero), is −C/B, and the slope of the line is −A/B.

Using this, the answer to your question is:

y = 4x-11

y+11=4x

11=4x-y

so

4x-y=11

standard form? u mean general form?

well its 4x - y - 11 = 0 for general form

I think it's x=(-7)y , or 11+y/4=x but it's been a long time since I've done algebra. 12 years.
I do believe that standard form means that x is on one side of the equation and everything else is on the other side.

Standard form means the x and y are on the same side.

y = 4x - 11, x and y need to be on the same side, so substract 4x from both sides. -4x + y = -11

Its unual to leave the first terms as a negative so multiply each term by -1.

4x - y = 11

It is already in standard form!
(standard form is y = ax^2 + bx + c)

4x-y=11

just rearrange it, remember to change the sign when you swap it to the other side.
