Do Hindi people eat beef if they are not religious? I don't mean Muslims.
Here in Israel, for example, only religious Jews don't eat pork. Secular ones can buy and eat it everywhere.
So, if u are secular in India, can u eat beef?

shalom,

muslims in india eat beef, so it's available in muslim restaurants and neighborhoods all over, and in many places in the north.

hindus don't eat it. there's no such thing as a non-religious hindu really. they may not practice much, but it's inseparable from their nationality, so even if they don't go to puja they still don't eat any beef. you can't be a secular hindu the way you can be a secular jew. that's actually one of the things i love about india.

there is buffalo meat around, but when you see a butcher shop you won't want any.
the vegetarian food is surprisingly great, they are main courses, not side dishes. try it, you'll like it.

and please try to be patient and mellow, don't try to order people around, don't expect the usual kind of service you get back home, don't lose your temper. have fun.

Hi. I'm a Hindu and I don't eat beef, but I do have many hindu friends who eat beef. There's no rule here that says we can't eat beef - after all, India is a secular country!

You can consider it as a religious taboo, something we are brought up to believe in. Hindus associate cows with MahaLakshmi the Goddess of Wealth, so it's like a sin to slaughter cows for food...

When I lived in USA, my Caucasian host, a very nice lady in her 60s, told me that she stopped eating lamb because of the animal's association with Jesus. You can compare the same thing with our belief in cows!

It's Hindu and not Hindi. Hindi is the national language of India.

Hindu refers to people who practice religion "Hinduism".

I'm a Hindu. I'm also secular and non-religious as I don't really believe in so many Gods. Many educated Hindus are as modern-thinking and we don't really care much about rituals.

Cow-slaughter was traditionally frowned on in Indian culture because India, being an agrarian society needed cattle for sustaining the livelihood of many. Also, Indian scriptures advocate non-violence and compassion towards animals. Many Indians are naturally vegetarians because of animal compassion.

I'm not in extreme and do eat chicken, sheep and fish. Also, seafood is my favourite. But yes, despite being so much modern, I still never ate beef nor intend to :)

A man will not be judged by Him on the basis of what one eats or what one drinks. Each one of us will be judged by Him according to our deeds.
It's very important that we live as good social being ......love our fellow members and help each other , the way we can. That's all.

God Bless
