The Edwardian period did not begin until the accession of of Edward VII in 1902, so it does not extend back into the 19th century. However, the fashion was for long skirts and very narrow waists - effected by very tight - and unpleasant - corseting (see:- http://www.fashion-era.com/edwardian_corsetry.htm). On formal occasions women wore very large hats.

Most unpleasant.
Thank heavens we don't have to dress like that now.
Saying that though some of today's fashion makes me cringe.
