If you have previously owned a motorbike (dirt bike or street bike) you will probably be able to give the 1000 a shot, but if
not, you should try out a dirt bike (just to get a motorbike feel)
then after a few months of riding, the options for motorbikes open up completly.
If you have your heart set on a honda, so be it, but keep in mind there is other brands out there.
For example:
Triumph Daytona 675 - Extremly Sporty and light
Yamaha R1 or R6 - A bit heavy but a huge engine makes up for it.
Kawasaki Ninja Series - Sleek and sexy
The main brands you should be looking at are:
Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM, Ducati and Aprilia
Anything under 500-600cc doesn't seem to have enough power.
600-750cc is comfortable and has enough power for you to be happy riding it.
750-900cc becomes harder to handle and is heavier, more expirienced riders.
900-1200cc is enormous on a street motorcycle, ride a motorcycle for at least a year or two before trying one.
1200+ mainly cruisers or choppers, not as twitchy but that is not always a good thing, mega heavy, don't drop one... EVER!
Hope this helped!

It depends on your experience level.
If you're a beginner, neither one is going to be easy to control. You'll want to start on a 250 to 500 cc bike instead.
If you're an experienced rider looking for fun on track days, the 600 is going to be easier to control.
The liter bikes are quick in a straight line, but it takes a very experienced rider to use them to their potential on a road course.

If you are experienced enough to ride even the 600 you shouldn't need to ask.

the 600 definately, handles like a dream. and runs like a scalded dog. My son bought a new 2006 CBR600f41 this summer and already has over 5000 miles on it, and he loves it.
