You could have gotten arrested yourself. But out of instinct you felt like you had to do something you did the right thing. Kudos to you.

in a way, you were a hero...but I understand your g/f...if it was the wrong man, you could be 6 feet under. The security guard seemed useless
In general, I understand you speaking up for the woman...but you have to be careful of assaulting someone, you just can't take the law into your own hands like that
I know it's hard b/c it's a trigger based on your childhood experiences. What it shows me is you need a good therapist to work through that PTSD! I commend you for speaking up to this man, but hitting him is not the solution. Violence only begets violence. Most likely that public humiliation didn't change anything but make him beat his wife harder at home because he knows he can get away with it there, so think of the big picture.
I would have waited until he left, got his driver's license and called the child/spouse abuse line and reported seeing him hit them or however it happened.

I am glad to hear that there are people with a sense of justice nowadays. That man was definitely wrong for slapping his wife for that reason. I think that you were right and probably your gf was worried that you could have gotten in trouble or get her into trouble as well. You were not wrong, I woulda probably done the same thing if I saw my dad slap my mom when I was little.

You were right, no man has the right to treat his wife in that manner, I to was brought up in a house where my father was heavy handed.
I would have done the same thing as you and your girlfriend should appreciate the fact that you're prepared to stand up for certain values, could you imagine the world if no one took any sort of action, I applaud your bravery and hopefully the women seeks a divorce from the mongrel.

If he was actually hitting her, you did the right thing. No man has the right to ever hit a woman! Ever. And it would be even worse for another man to watch it happening and not do anything about it.
BTW, I see quite a few comments about you being arrested. While that might be a possibility, we have to do the right thing even if our corrupt legal system gets us in trouble for it.
We need more people like you around. And if you do get arrested...call me! I'll vouch for you all the way! :)

I don't normally condone violence, but I do give you credit for stepping into a bad situation rather than just standing back and watching the poor woman being hit again. There are times when we shouldn't turn away and that was one. Hero is an overused word, but that day you were her hero. Thank-you.

You did the right thing! I wish more people would get involved like you did. The people who know this is going on and just turn there back on it make me sick. They need to think of the children. You sir, are a hero! I can't thank you enough. Your girlfriend should put herself in the situation, would she want someone to help her or would she want them to just stand by?

Sounds like something my fiance would have done. Maybe it wasn't the most logical thing to do, but thank goodness it didn't get worse. Its could be understandable @ the heat of the moment to give that loser a taste of his own medicine. But I wouldn't think its such a good idea to jepordize the safety of yourself or others near you as well by solving violence w/ violence. Well, @ least the cops got there in time to cool things down.

You shouldn't have hit him. If it got too violent the security guard would have intervened. However, it is a lose - lose situation, and you tried what was the right thing to do, even if it was by a wrong means. Thank god people were watching from the start, if they only started watching when you hit him, you could probably have been sued.
Thumbs up for caring though!

You did the right people the people that don't do any are the kind of jerks that see a person get raped and just stand there like an idiot and watch. What you did was incredible and you should be given some more praise.
