To an extent.

Of course, this is a benchmark. There are variations in shopping preferences and modes, across the board.

The big difference is this:
A man almost NEVER goes anywhere near a store without something very specific in mind. Even if he is only 'on recon,' he is out to get intel on his next target. The internet has largely eliminated man's need to do physical recon. When he goes in the store, he is focused. He gets in, acquires his target, and is out as quick as possible, often before the receipt even makes it to his pocket.

Now, I don't know if women treat shopping as a social activity, per se, but it certainly is a browsing & grazing activity.

So, if anything, I would say that, regarding the genders' shopping habits: men are hunters while women are foragers.

that usually depends on what we're getting from the store. if we get the crap end of the stick and wind up buying groceries instead of the woman, then yes we'll treat it like a mission because that's what will get us by. if we get something that is relevant to our interests, for example hunting gear and scale model rc planes and helicopters, then we still treat it as a mission to satisfy when the woman won't put out. women just like most anything social and use shopping as another outlet to spout mindless gab at other women who spout mindless gab just the same.

Yes I do and they execute it the way as well. WHen it comes to shopping men get info on the objective best model scout for best prices etc. To women shopping is more like a gathering and its up to the shops to attract them in their stores and seduce them into buying, while men only care about substance, best bang for your buck.

I absolutely hate shopping and definitely don't look on it as a social event. What's so "social" about having to fight for parking spaces, being pushed around by crowds, and having to listen to dozens of screaming children?

I despise shopping, partially because our temples to the almighty dollar make me want to commit ritual suicide with a ballpoint pen, and partially because i work in retail, so i have a pretty good idea what it feels like to be on the other side of the counter. saps any possible enjoyment out of it for me.
