There are many different ways of defining the top boarding school. Ultimately, the top boarding school is the one in which you will thrive. Here is a list of the most competitive schools based on low admissions rates. Please note that there are many great schools beyond this list, especially outside of New England. I might have missed a few.

Philips Andover
Philips Exeter
St. Pauls
Lawrenceville
Deerfield
Choate
Milton

Here is a recent article in the Wall Street Journal listing both boarding & day schools with high college acceptance at 8 very competitive schools http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119638146482608732.html?mod=hpp_us_personal_journa . You can research boarding schools further on www.boardingschoolreview.com . Some of the numbers on this site are not up-to-date, but it is a very useful site. Some people like to use endowment size as a factor in their searches. You can also research on www.schools.com and www.petersons.com . Finally, you can go to www.collegeconfidential.com and go to the Prep School Admissions board to learn more.
