Could just be the time of year. Most places anticipate the busy holiday season and have hired up in advance. Plus if they are busy the season is not really the time to get people up to speed or train them.
Other places that are not so busy because of the holidays of course are not going to be adding people.
You need to maybe expand on what kind of job you are willing to do or how much money you are willing to accept. Or what hours you are available. Basically you take whatever you can get even if it is not what you want to do. Then you have at least some money coming in and can look for a different one at the same time.

Same here when I got out of High School. Same answer every time - - - no experience.
If it's been a week, go back and check it out again. Remind them that you filled out an application and you're just wondering, will they be hiring soon.
That's what I did with the last job I had. Before that I worked at a bank 3-4 years. From there an insurance company 4 years.
Last job, I hear thru the grape vine, that someone was getting ready to retire. Went there once a week to play volleyball with a couple of friends (United Way-Social Service Agency) so stopped at the office and asked - retired yet? Lost count on how many times I stopped and asked. Finally, one day the boss came out of his office out of curiosity, wondering who was this person stopping every week. Just checking.
Finially he asked to interview me. Hired me even though the other women still hadn't retired yet. This was great, because I had full three months of training before she retired. Stepped right in and knew everything. Best job I every had. Greatest boss I every had. Worked there seventeen years. End of my story.
For you, make the rounds once a week if you haven't heard from them. Believe me, they will remember you and they will see that you are sincere about being hired.
Keep filling out other applications in the mean time if there are any more places around.
Remember, our economy isn't the greatest right now. May be holding down number of staff. Hang in there, because your turn is coming.
Took along time to land 1st job. Anything after that was easy for me to get a job, because I then had the experience.
Remember Christmas if coming and different places might hire more people.

Well, there are a few things to consider. Did you interview well? Did you present yourself in a professional manner? Are you qualified for the jobs you applied for? Do you have a criminal record?
If you answer "yes" to all except the last question, then the companies you applied at do not need more employees. If you answered "no" to any question except the last one, then you need to improve yourself before getting the job you want.
Find anything that will give you the maximum hours you can realistically work a week. Insurance and other benefits are great, but might not be offered. Be willing to work crappy hours and even crappy jobs until you prove yourself.
Remember a job is a job. If you do not like your job, hang onto it until you find something better. No harm in seeking a better position in life, just keep focused on what you want and work for it.

How do you present yourself at the interview?
Are you dressed appropriately?
Do you have qualifications for the position you are applying for?
Do you have a lot of piercings that are visible?
Are the positions working with the public? If they are, employers may be looking for a specific look. You are the "face" of the company to the public.
How do you act in the interview? Are obviously nervous? Do you figit a lot, look at your watch, or stare down at your feet?Do you look the interviewer in the eye when answering questions? Are your answers positive in nature? Do you smile?
There are many reasons that a potential employer will use to disqualify you.
Try practice interviewing with an adult, and if you know one, someone that owns a business or is in a position to hire employees.

Were you dressed professionally, were you nice and respectful, did you hand them your resume or portfolio. It could be that you were not the right person for their job, but try another job.
