On any issue - race, politics, religion......It is always the loudest most off center, out of the way people on either side of the issue that get the microphone....why?

Lou Diamon is a fool. It has nothing to do with people not wanting to be entertained....I am not even saying salaciousness does not have a fine role in a free society. I am asking about news specifically....news is supposed to be serious and about facts. So why - really - is it so jacked up? Does news have a responsibilityu greater tham simple entertainment and ratings? Can media companies be designed in such a way that news does not have as much pressure to profit, as would say Entertainment Tonight?

Unfortunately, it's because that's what the majority of the viewing audience want. Same goes for some of these sick reality shows where they now show people getting injured or killed ..for the sake of entertainment. Don't expect the broadcasters to have enough ethics to change any of this. If it draws a big audience they will be able to draw big paying advertisers.

It's our own society that is making this trend popular as opposed to quality programming. People want to see these meaningless exploitation shows, especially if it's watching someone else suffer.

Because the entire purpose of commercial broadcasting outlets is to draw a crowd so they can sell stuff. Having some crazy people on a "panel" to discuss some event is the human equivalent of a train wreck or a multi-vehicle collision on a highway. It's sure to attract a crowd. That way, when the commercial break comes, they have enough people gathered around the tube to sell stuff to.

Most "normal" people will shy away from the sort of media attention that will bring them to the notice of thousands or millions of other people. So those that do stand up and speak on any issue will then usually say or do something to grab more attention, and a wider audience.

cause they attract attention be it positive or negative and the media likes to make people look like fools so put the mike in the person knowing that they are going to be a fool.
