I currently own a couple reticulated pythons. I have water bowls in their cages but I am looking for something that looks a little more natural. I need them to be good sized and the water dishes that petsmart and such sells obviously does not sell big soaking dishes big enough for a rectic python. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can make a water dish that is a lot more natural looking? I would like it to look like rocks and possibly rough as well to help the snake shed easier. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Currently using a large black plastic bowl.

Yes a female Reticulated Python will get an average of 16'-20' and possibly larger with some over 25 ft.

The using silicone to glue rocks to the outsides sounds like it might work. Any other suggestions?

I didn't ask about tub size or cage size or anything else the snake might need. I am not a novice snake keeper. It would be pretty dumb of me to keep a snake that could quite possibly reach over 20 ft long if I knew nothing about snakes. I was asking how I could make their water dish look more natural instead of having a big ol black tub in its cage.

Use some aquarium silicon adhesive to glue some stone onto the outer surface of the bowl. You could also use tree bark.Cheap, easy and safe for the snake, and you can choose which stones to use.

Possible swimming pools as they get bigger:
Rubbermaid containers. They're cheap, hold water, and come in a huge range of sizes.
Cat litter boxes (many sizes)
Kiddie Pools (Don't reticulated pythons get big?)
There are huge trays used to mix cement. Get one cheap at a DIY store.
Spend more on a pond insert.

Use silicone, or any non-toxic glue to decorate the outside.

You do realize that as they get bigger their water dish also needs to get bigger. If it is not big enough for them to get into and soak completely covered in water, then its not big enough. As Retics get bigger they start to have problems shedding, so unless you can keep your humidity around 80-90% then it will need a dish or tub, big enough to soak in. I have 58qt. sterilelite plastic tub in with my big girls and sometimes i wonder if i should go up in size. They look ridiculus soaking in those, and they are pretty big. Also your caging requirements for retics will need a lot of room. my large cages are 4ft wide x 10 ft long x 2 ft tall, if you cannot keep cages that size or real close to that size then you dont need to keep retics. Anything smaller than that for an adult is inhumane. The Giant snake's are a big responsibility, but if cared for properly they will give you many years of enjoyment. Just be prepared to pick up there fece's with a shovel, cause there is no dog in the world that can match piles of poo with a large snake, sometime up to 10 pounds or more per pile, if thet are eating good. Have fun and good luck.!
