Treat them like equals. You're just debating a question in your circle of friends, that's all... All that's different is that you're on stage and you've got a mike...
Be casual, address people directly, look them in the eye.
Do not, I repeat, do NOT, focus on the yawning individuals. There WILL be people who don't pay attention however interesting you are... Don't lose your steam by looking at them.
You're the boss for the few minutes when the mike is in your hand...
Don't get worked up if the audience/a fellow competitor asks you a question after your speech. Hear them out calmly, think it out, and give your reply. No hurry.

The audience as a whole and as individuals are going to judge you. Try to speak to them as individuals
