I plan on becoming a high school teacher in California.

If I get a credential to teach Biology too, will it be easier to get a job?

There is a huge public misconception that teaching jobs are easy to find...that is simply not true.

Teaching jobs can be quite difficult to secure...especially social studies positions. If you are looking in a "nice" part of California don't be surprised to have hundreds of people competing for one social studies position.

Biology will be a much easier position for you to find, but still not that easy.

You will still need to do things to separate yourself from the competition.

You should definitely get a biology credential. Most school districts have shortages in science and math, but no shortages in social studies and history. You would also have more mobility, and you could go to districts that are offering a sign-up bonus for science teachers.

In my state, as long as you can coach something, you'll have a job. (tongue in cheek but not inaccurate)

Definitely get the biology credentials. Every one needs science teachers. Check with the state where you want to live for more details about what you'll need.

Good luck.
