I have a good nights sleep every night. I do stretching and my exercises everyday and have no more problems sleeping. Exercise works wonders.

What is a good nights sleep? We can't remember the last time we had a good 8 hours! If we did we'd probably be too tired the next day to function properly LOL. If it's not the arthritic pain that keeps us both awake it's the steroids we sometimes take for the pain that keeps us awake! When the meds keep us awake at least we have less pain! We usually get around 2 and a half to 4hrs if we're lucky and then we sometimes have a snooze in the afternoon but again that all depends on the level of pain we're in.
Buying this laptop was a God send coz at least when we can't sleep we can skip around the world and chat to other people who are either on a different time zone or who are also in the UK and having sleepless nights! xx

Oh.....that is a great question and hits home like you wouldn't believe.
What works for me:
1) I can not take any medication b/c it hinders my sleep pattern ~~usually resulting in nightmares.
2) If I do not have lots of physical activity during the day then I will not want to sleep, let alone get a good nights sleep.
3) My best tip is to take a hot shower or better yet a nice hot bath before going to sleep.
4) Read a good book while in bed. It tires me mentally and there .....I.....go.......zzzzzzzzzz

This last Friday night, I slept to good, really. I am suffer from sever depression right now. So I am now taking medicine for it, along with that medicine, the doctor also gave me some sleeping pills to help me sleep.
They worked so good that when I woke up the next morning, my house looked like a tornado had hit the inside of it. You see I have 5 baby kittens that are about ready to go out side. Maybe sooner than I planned, lol.

Did your 17 year old make it home through the storm?
That would help.
The real solution, is to take care of your problems TODAY, so that they can not prey on your mind and give you a lousy night's sleep. But if you are having trouble resolving your problems, and you need to learn how to live with them for awhile, I find that a nice hot soak in the tub with some bath salts that having a pleasing smell for you (my favourite is citrus) just before bed time is a wonderful way to unwind.
And if you are going to have any sort of hot drink after supper, make sure that it is caffeine free....hot chocolate is a good one.

Last night I got a good eight. Physical activity during the day seems to help me the most in getting a good night's sleep.

If I get 4 - 5 hours sleep without getting up to go to the bathroom, I feel that is great. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way to often. Sorry, but I don't have any good tips for you.

Noonecan, I sometimes wake up a few times a night, but as my knee heals, it's less frequent. Nevertheless, I normally
have at least once where I have to read for awhile to get sleepy and fall asleep again. I fell asleep on the sofa watching TV last night that's why I'm still up now.

I cried myself to sleep last night, but it leaves you with a stopped up nose and tears in your ears, so don't try that!
I only have time for 4 1/2 to 5 hours of sleep a night, and it used to be restless, headachy, uncomfortable, frequently-interrupted sleep. I couldn't even GO to sleep without Benadryl and Advil. My body would feel like it was vibrating. Then ... I stopped drinking my one big cup of coffee in the morning. Voila! No more trouble falling asleep. No more nighttime or morning headaches, no more waking in the night. Even my palpitations subsided, and my mood improved, too. Turns out that ONE cup of coffee was keeping me up, and the headaches were daily caffeine withdrawal. I told my cardiologist, and he said it almost made him want to give up coffee, too.
