Technically it does matter how much you make depending on the style you want to live. However, money does not buy happiness. While your spending some of it, it may seem like it does. But once you get back home, if you dont have any good hobbies, good friends, etc., money is just there!

It matters that you make enough to avoid poverty.

Lead to happiness? Maybe not - but it sure as hell doesn't preclude it. If one is truly wealthy and yet - unhappy - he'd best look for the cause somewhere other than the money. Unless, of course, he is a financial fool.
