What was your first home buying experience?
Was it smooth? A nightmare? What invaluable lessons did you learn?
We've found a home we love, put in our offer late this afternoon, and the sellers accepted this evening! WOW!
It's been a long road full of frustration, joy, excitement, irritation, fatigue & hard work. But it's all worth it!
Now we hire the inspector and make sure everything is "all good" and we close on the 17th! Just in time to unpack and decorate for Christmas! Christmas in our first home!
OUR FIRST HOME!!!!!
We're military and we can't wait to get out of housing!
Now we just have to coordinate the move - but we're military, so we're pros at that!

Our first home purchase was uneventful, save for the fact that both my wife and I were young and rather naive. I still recall my wife's shock when she discovered that the huge proportion of our mortgage payments were going toward interest and not principal. This was so far back in history that we had a handwritten 'passbook' which recorded our progress in making payments.
It WAS fun, however. For the first time, we realized that any work we did around the premises was ours and not a landlord's.

Congrats, stay on top of the Realtor and loan officer handling your loan. Make sure that you have done everything you need to do in order to get the keys to your new place on the 17th. There are always unexpected things which pop up at the last minute when buying a home. Everyones experience and situation is different, just try your best to have all your bases covered. Good luck!
