If I become a philosophy professor, then will I earn decent amount of money?

I am a newbie on this university education field, so I want to get a brief picture of what it is.

How much is an average salary of a philosophy professor?

And, is the money earning for the professors in general low?

And is the philosophy professor's "growth potential" (it means getting a promotion, being paid higher salary, etc.) high?

Please tell me as info as possible.

Thank you.

No. Being a professor in philosophy is really a professional sacrifice. I am a philosophy professor but I took it as my contribution to the society and not as my way of livelihood. Philosophy these days is no longer the profitable profession compared to the past centuries where all professionals like mathematicians, scientists, etc were all from philosophy courses. There is no money in philosophy, only wisdom.

professors are very well paid.

they enjoy many benefits from the university and from the government.

in the school setting, yes their is career development. you will start as instructor 1, then instructor 2, and so on..and be an assisstant professor 1 and so on..i think the highest position is university professor VI or any equivalent in your country. well, all i know is that you have to earn you doctorate to be one, and at least has been teaching for many years.

lastly, teaching is the best way to serve your country..^_^

(edit) i agree with the second answerer, yes you earn wisdom, although when you are a philosophy teacher, you also teach in the school setting the same as professors of math, chemistry, physics, etc, hence, you undergo the same process of compensation as any other professors in your country..so you'll definitely earn..i also know some philosophy professors who are working full in their university and work part time as an official of the school, schools offer their professors to work in their administration most of the time..maybe it's also up to the person if he/she wants to use all the advantages and resources of being a professor..^_^
