i am getting white smoke when i turn the heater on
from another question i can saftly assume this is a heating core issue i do not have money to replace it though so
i need to bypass it-- can i screw anything else up by bypassing the heating core?

will the overall cooling system be affected in any way

how long can i drive with a bypassed heater core?

i live in san diego so i can deal with out heat

how easy is this to do

and how much would this cost if i took it to a shop?

thanks

FYI i am a car knob

what hose i looked under the hood @ the hoses and about 5 or 6 go in to the firewall

2 come out of the thing you put the coolent in to and go through the fire wall

are these the 2 hoses i cut and then conect?

cut the hose in to and connect the two ends that come from the engine until you get it repaired, use a good connector and you can drive it like this forever it wont hurt a thing, all you need to do is not let it enter the heater core, good luck.

going into the fire wall are two hoses that are 3/4" in diameter each. pull off the clamps and hoses, get a pass thru connector at a local parts store, put hoses on, then clamps drive however long you like, but no heat. Problem sloved. shops wont do it, if they are any kind of legit shop.

THE TASK IS SIMPLE, ALTHOUGH GETTING TO THE HOSES MAY BE TRICKY..COULD YOU TELL ME WHAT VEHICLE YOU ARE WORKING ON??? IT HELPS!!! BUT ALL HEATER CORES ARE LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH AREA...WHICH GO THROUGH THE FIREWALL AND CONNECT TO HOSES.. UNDER THE HOOD, LEFT SIDE FIRE WALL, YOU SHOULD SEE HOSES GOING TO THE EVAPORATOR CORE FOR A/C AND HOSES GOING TO THE HEATER CORE..FOR HEAT..JUST FEEL AND SEE WHICH HOSES ARE HOT...LOOSES CLAMPS, TAKE A PIECE FO METAL TUBING SMALLER THAN THE HOSE SIZE..INSERT PIPE BETWEEN THE HOSE AND SECURE WITH CLAMPS...JUST THAT EASY.
