My baby was born with very little hair (she NEVER got a BALD-SPOT though) ... Anyhow... She is 12 months old and on the back of her head she has about 1 inch long, but the front is still so short, that clippies fall out and ponies are out of the question... I'd say 1/4 of an inch.
So, for those of you who had a "bald" baby, when were you able to put clippies in her hair?

My daughter was a baldy as well and I wasn't able to use any clips in her hair until she was older "15 months". I did however keep her in little head bands until that time.. As for the ponytails have you tried the little tiny rubber bands. I found that they work great for the shorter hair. They also have velcro hair clips for the babies with not so much hair. I found them on Ebay. Just type in Velcro Baby Hair Clips..

I was a bald baby and my mom loves to tell me about how she used to tape, yes tape, the bows to my head because I had no hair and everyone kept thinking I was a boy (dressed in a pink frilly dress with my ears pierced--I don't know, I guess some people aren't very perceptive). My mom wasn't able to put any clips or anything not taped in my hair until I was almost a year and a half. With any luck though, you should be able to start doing your daughter's hair in just a few short months. :)

my daughter is 12 months old, and has a little patch of hair on the back of her head, its about 3/4 of an inch long and everywhere else is SUPER short.
my son was the same...he actually had enough hair to cut when he was about 2. if your daughter is the same, i'm guessing you'll be able to put a clip in at 2 years old.
judging from my sons hair. maybe even 20 months old.
bummer huh?

My baby has like no hair at 4 months, and her cousin 3 months older has a shag. Me and my wife were both bald past our 2nd birthday, then it was so thick she couldn't put a pony tail around once.Don't worry about not being able to do her hair now, because it'll catch up and you'll wish she still didn't have any.Enjoy it while you can :)

I just wanted to let you know that putting clippies in their hair can actually pull some of it out-which is definately not what you're hoping for.
Also (just for FYI) clips/barettes/bows/full circle headbands are choking and strangulation hazards until your baby is 2 years old and my pediatrician advises against them because of that.

Try babyjanes.com. They have tons of cute barrettes with a pinch clip. My daughter still doesn't have tons of hair at 18 months and these have worked for her for months. Well except when she pulls them out after two minutes! lol

i 'd say my little girlie was about 2 1/2 yrs before she had enough hair for conventional items. my wife is a stylist, so she could get them to stay at probably 18 months, but i'm just not that talented. (actually i gave up all together, and just brush her now. if she wants pretties, she's gotta hit mommy up. hehehe)
