My impression is that a lot of girls dream about dating someone accomplished, instead of accomplishing stuff themselves. Is that common, or just a stupid theory?

... just want to add, the question's not coming from a bad place! If a lot of girls are like that, it's fine by me, though a little sad. I'm just asking out of curiosity as to how other people think. I've a couple female friends who complained they had that tendancy, and it made me wonder if it was common.

In a society where we're encouraged to be cheerleaders rather than football players, secretaries rather than executives, nurses rather than doctors, what do you expect? Women have traditionally been in *support* roles, which is a role we also play out in relationships.

Fortunately, it tends to work out fairly well. Usually one "leader" and one "follower" in a relationship is a good balance.

I would like to date someone that is accomplished or that has goals in their life, but that's not going to take the place of things that I want to accomplish. Another thing is that the field of work I am getting into does not earn a lot of money so it would be nice if my future hubby would make some :)

Its an observation that is true for lots of different groups.
Why do you think Parents push their Kids to do stuff they (the parents) like. Or why do you think we watch movies and idolize certain heroes, almost all of us live vicariously through others, albeit at different levels.
Traditionally our society has always favored males. Females were relinquished to supportive roles a; Its only recently that girls were encouraged to accomplish academically.

Also think about this, girls are always told "your pretty" as a standard compliment. Whereas boys will be told "your smart", essentially females are told to value 'beauty' and not accomplishments.

Stupid theory! If a woman is looking for a boyfriend who is accomplished it is probably because she doesn't want to get stuck with a loser...that she has to support!

A stupid theory. I honestly think that both are very important! but really accomplishing things myself is even more important to me!

I think you are right.
Glory by reflective shine- is almost endearing in the young.
As they grow up to be their own person, they internalize, discover their beauty , do a complete turnaround and now want the guys to show them off, be suitably adoring her and thriving on her glory, not the other way around anymore.
