I tried Chantix, and I didn't sleep for days, tried the patch, it made me break out in hives, tried cold turkey and that made me eat everything in sight.....I have cut down dramatically but just can't seem to get to take the plunge to quit.

i quit after smoking for 14 years. i did it cold turkey, thats the only way, any other way shows a lack of true dedication because your trying to "cheat" quitting smoking is gonna hurt and thats all there is to it, even once you get past the physical addiction and the massive cravings you will still have a taunting desire to smoke for months after, even now over a year and a half after quitting i occasionally have some urge to smoke, now it only lasts a minute and is gone. i will never smoke again. that is the statement you have to make to yourself and make it with conviction. youll find it hard to truly say this to yourself .."i will never smoke again" but unless you have decided that you will never be able to quit smoking and stay quit. nicotine is a terrible drug , it is as addictive as heroine (maybe not as bad for you but as addictive)
just know that its going to be really hard but if you can get through it you will have accomplished something really impressive. are you strong enough?
good luck. it was the best thing i ever did for myself, i feel better then i have my entire life and look better as well.

If you're asking this question, then you really don't have the human quality of empathy, at least when it comes to this subject. My husband smokes, and I gently remind him constantly that he suffers from respiratory ailments more severely than I do and gets out of breath so quickly because he smokes. Sometimes he agrees and sometimes he gets angry and defensive. Only he knows when or if he will quit. I don't yell at him for not quitting, nor do I think him weak. He kicked alcohol 16 years ago and firmly understands why he couldn't handle it. Smoking is more insidious, and it can gain an even firmer hold before you realize what it is doing to you. Many sober alcoholics I know have never been able to kick cigarettes for this reason. I don't implore you to stop tooting your own horn. It is quite an achievement! But don't belittle those who have not yet made the leap that you have; it only makes them angry and works against your stated purpose--to encourage others to quit as you have.

You have to WANT to quit. You should be proud to say, "I don't smoke." It's a filthy habit. Not to mention the wrinkles, cancer, emphysema, heart disease.

My husband and I both quit cold turkey after smoking many years. It's easy. After 2 weeks you don't even miss 'em. And don't keep any of your favorite snacks in the house. It's all about willpower. You just need to self-hypnotize yourself. You can do it! I know you can!! Good luck!! :)

I have never smoked but I have friends who have and quit.
I'll tell you what they did
First figure out why you started smoking in the first place.
If you smoked because you were bored try not to be bored. Bring a book everywhere you go.
if you smoked because you wanted to stay calm find a way to release your anger like punching a bag.
if you smoked to eat less try gum.
Or you can scare yourself. My dad quit on the spot 23 years ago after he found out I was going to be born
