i would be aware of some herbs they could cause you to be dependent on them if taken in high doses i would just have a cup of milk and a banana before bedtime it will help you relax another suggestion would be to use ear pluggs to help you sleep better. i hope this helps if none of this works see a naturopath

Lots of great answers here! I would like to add something I heard recently and vaguely remembered from the past regarding night time melatonin production. As I am sure you know, melatonin is produced while sleeping and important for the proper sleep cycles. The interesting key was to avoid all light, as in no night lights, no lights on if a trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night, etc. as light sends the message to the brain that it must be time to get up and to stop producing melatonin for that night.

It's not herbal, but a cup of hot milk really works, it takes about 30-45 minutes. You can also try valerian root. Get capsules, the tea is nasty tasting. Best of luck.

yes..
1. melatonin (excellent)..take 3-5 mg 1/2 hour before you want to sleep..this will also reset the body clock for shift workers, jet lag, and other people affected by delayed sleep phase syndrome and is also a powerful antioxidant so it is anti aging etc. some people take a timed release version
2. lavender essential oil (excellent) be sure it is real essential oil bought at a health food store..sprinkle some on a tissue or your pillow or sheets and breathe deeply..this is especially good if you are worried and can't shut off your thoughts. You can also use dried lavender flowers and make a little pillow or put it in a sock and refresh it with the lavender essential oil and take deep breaths of it
example of a good brand of real essential oil

3. Hops put in a sock and tie the sock and crush.smash it and breathe it. same as above
4. Valerian --best to use an organic tincture (but it is supposed to stink)--this herb is also supposed to bring you down if manic and up if depressed..always use only organic or wild crafted herbs (grown in the wilds) as these are 7-10 times higher in the pytochemicals that prevent and cure disease
5. warm milk with honey
6. warm/hot chamomile tea or lemon balm tea with honey
7. passionflower..good brand is herbpharm

HI ABC
Here are some ideas to heal the issue.
Quick Action Plan for Sleep Disorders
1 Avoid caffeine, sugar, salt, refined carbohydrates and unhealthy partially hydrogenated fats.
2. Emphasize a diet high in fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, as well as easily digested protein foods and whole-grain, complex carbohydrates.
3. Avoid eating late in the evening, which can unsettle your stomach and make sleep difficult.
4. Supplement with B-complex vitamins, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin E, calcium, chromium, copper (taken away from zinc), magnesium, and the amino acids phosphatidyl-serine and L-tryptophan.
5. Melatonin supplements taken for short periods of time can help relieve insomnia, as well as advanced and delayed phase syndromes and REM behavior disorder. Start with a small dose (0.5 to 2.0 mg) taken one hour before bedtime.
6. Useful herbs include chamomile, hops, linden flower, lime blossom, passionflower, skullcap, and valerian root.
7. Try meditating before you retire for the night to ease your mind of worries and promote relaxation.
8. Sleep at least six feet away from all electric appliances and devices, unplugging them before you go to sleep. Also avoid using electric blankets and electric heating pads, as well as waterbeds.
9. Avoid lying in bed for other activities, such as reading or watching television. Make your bedroom a place devoted solely to sleeping.
10. If you can't fall asleep, get out of bed and go to another room to engage in a relaxing activity. When you start to feel drowsy, return to your bedroom and go to sleep.
Best of health to you
