It is and has been well defined in most of the countries and societies through personal laws or legal frame work.Due to ethnic peculiarities and diverse nature of groups forming a society,it's not always possible to have a uniform definition of a family, specially in a democratic set up,though highly desirable. Many groups have a tedious scope of family or an extended family. There doesn't seem to be immediate scope for a uniform definition a family under the present social structures.
