My boyfriend is on housearrest and has been paying his fees through the mail with money orders. But the person he reports to has been sending someone else to his house to collect the money personaly and they have been telling him that they want cash payments instead. He said no because the county gave him no papers saying that payments should be made in cash. This person still insists on cash payments but has yet to bring papers from our county saying that the payments should be cash. They still take the money orders but they have tried to get him to leave the money orders blank instead of writing them out the county. This person says the reason the payments should be made in cash is because they can write thier own recipets. I think that this person is full of it. They are too insistant on cash for my liking and whats to stop them from pocketing the money and turning around saying that it was never paid? Is this the right kind of behavior for a worker of the county?

Call the office where the payments go and ask to speak with a supervisor about it.
Don't pay any cash. Continue to mail the money orders. Hope he has receipts for the ones he handed over.

Heck NO it isn't correct behavior. Of COURSE he'll pocket the money -- government doesn't operate on a cash basis. If you pay in cash, you have no documentation that you ever paid at all. It's like paying bills but not getting a receipt.

Go to the top on this one -- to your county commissioner or Sheriff if this is a County situation. If there's retribution, call the media -- tell a local newspaper or TV station about it. It stinks!

"Cash? What cash? The county doesn't use reciepts like that."

Call the courts.
