Posada also expressed his wish to catch Santana.
I was thinking that this could be Posada just trying to push the Yankees into going harder after Santana, and Pettite might be involved in this mind game, and could very well be on his way back to the Yankees.
I hope I am right.

Well, they were quiet on including Hughes in the deal or not, and right after Posada's comments, all of a sudden they expressed that they are willing to part with him? Hmm.. Sounds to me like they did need that kind of pushing.

My gut feeling is that Andy is waiting to see what kind of team is going to form around him before his decides what he will do.
Remember, Andy has been toying with the idea of retirement for a long time now. My thought is this, Andy feels that if he's going to put the effort into another season, he wants the best chance to win it all. It the team doesn't develop in a way that makes him comfortable, he'll retire.
Personally I don't think his heart has been in the game since the Yankees let him go a few years ago to Houston. I think he was deeply hurt but the organization when they told him that they didn't care if he left. If that had not happened Andy would have always been a Yankee and he would be well on his way to 300 career wins. Unfortunately that will never happen.
If Santana joins the Yankees, Andy will probably give it one more season. Put yourself in Andy's position. What would you do? I think I'd do the same thing.

It is common knowledge around the yankees club house that Pettite is leaning towards retiring at this moment. I don't think this is Posada trying to push the Yankees into trading for Santana, because the Yanks don't need any more pushing

Pettitte made it quite clear, early on ,that he was undecided on whether or not to retire. He also made it quite clear that the Yankees are his first and only choice in the returning to the majors. I think that if the Yankees truly have a need then Pettitte could be persuaded to come back, granted the right incentive, that incentive being $$$. I refuse to bad mouth Andy for I have always liked him and in my mind he never should have left NY but what is done is done.
The Yankees are hedging on Santana but in all reality, if they want him they will get him. I don't feel that mind games are being played here, I think $$$$ as always is the underlying factor.

i really wish pettite comes back nd we get santana
hughes, melky, tabata for santana
edit: arods 1fan u have NO idea what u are talking about. Pettite needs time 2 decide about his future nd the yankees completely understand that. The yankees want/need santana no matter if pettite stays or not. The yankees farm is loaded nd trading hughes, melky, nd tabata wont do 2 much damage 2 the system especially that we are getting JOHAN SANTANA for them
ps arod is not good for the yankees

I think he was telling the truth. Pettitte will not go elsewhere, he will either retire or come back to the Yankees.

Pettite is being VERY SELFISH about this!! NO respect for the yankees. He was supposed to give the yankees an answer about weather he was gonna play or retire in DEC,,now it's late JAN!! WTF? This is the reson the yankees are GIVING UP THE BEST PLAYERS ON THE FARM!!! BC PETTITE IS ACTING LIKE A MORON!!And he put the yankees in a no win situation..It's not a trick question!! WILL YOU PLAY? OR RETIRE? This yankee fan has lost alot of respect for him!!
