It seems the first thing would be dictators go after is the press more and more complaining first that the press is tilted against them and then they eventually shut down the press and have one state news agency that tells the news "fairly" without stepping on the toes of the government?

Why is it also that would be tyrants like Chavez in Venezuela, Hitler of days gone by, and even Russia's Putin shut down any dissenters by accusing them of being traitors conspiring with some boogey man enemy that (the USA ) that he claims has it out for Russia. In other words Putin has any dissenters arrested because if they oppose him, its only because they are spies of the USA.

All the ones with the propensity to be tyrants or who prefer to be led by a tyrant seem to follow the same script over and over again.

What can we here in the USA learn from all this?
