They did a redesign and renamed them to Colorado's and made them a little bigger.

The S10 pickup line was indeed updated and like many manufacturers they decided to change the name. The Chevy Colorado is available in three different suspensions (ride heights) and does offer one that is lower to the ground with ground affects just like the Extreme offered you. If you visit your local Chevy dealership you can see the comparable Colorado. Take it for a drive, you might be surprised to find the vehicle you were looking for just called by another name.

As one who has worked on Chevrolets in the past (and enjoyed maintaining as well as driving them), I estimate that the demand for the S-10 died off on account of the sales race developing between Chrysler Corporation (spec., Dodge Dakota) and Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. (spec., T100) in the 1990's. The Colorado was therefore designed to fill the size gap betwixt the no-longer-hot-selling S-10 and the constant-demand C/K-1500; the available powertrains have benefitted from lessons learned with the S-10.

My first choice for a base 4x4 powertrain on the Colorado would be the Vortec 4200 SOHC inline six through a 10.5" clutch into a Getrag 241 six-on-the-floor, New Process 242 transfer case and American Axle 925 front/975 rear axles on mirrored Chevelle-style four-links; the usual Vortec V8's, ZF S6-650 and six-speed HydraMatics would all be RPO's. (The much lighter S-10 had a four as base engine, with several V6's on the RPO form.)

Because Chevy sucks. They were selling to many of them. Funny the last year they sold the S-10 they decided to make a 4 door model, plus they were selling them along side the new Chevy Colorado pickups. Chevy's problem is those S-10's were gas guzzlers even though they only had a 6 cylinder.

Chevy S10's have sucked balls ever since they were made and are useless. I would rather drive a geo metro with a trailer on the back.
