you engaged the parking lock, chipped off some metal into the oil in the tranny, but you didn't "strip it" so no worries mate. just swap out the fluid, and change the filter and you'll be fine. Try jiffy lube if you're in the states

If I understand you. Your car was moving forward at 3-5 mph and you put the car in park.
You may have caused some damage, but it should not have ruined the entire transmission. You don't say what kind of car or how many miles. This action may impact different cars differently. Basically there is a parking "bolt" that is inserted into the transmission when in park. If the bolt cracked or sheared off, you just need that part fixed.
Park the car. Let it sit for a few hours. Check for any fluid leaks. Start the car. Let it idle for at least 5 minutes.
Put the car in drive and just hold the brake. Then put it back in park, then reverse.
Are there any odd noises? If something really sounds odd, you may want to let it sit and talk to a tranny shop on Monday. Driving it may cause more damage.
If no noise try to drive it slowly and listen for any problems.

Your looking at having the transmission removed, disassembled, repaired and installed. You most likely broke the parking pawl. It may be a part of a clutch drum. Most shops do exchange transmissions. It's difficult to estimate cost because it varies from state to state, city to city, shop to shop and vehicle to vehicle.
Year, make, model and engine size would help here and if you know which trans it has that's even better.

It depends on wither or not is a 5 speed or automatic, and wither or not you are the 1st owner or not.

If it is a 5 speed and depending on how often you have done will depend on wither or not you have striped. 1 or 2 times it won't strip it.

Automatic Transmission- if you are going in reverse and the slammed it into drive there is a possiblity that it could, but most likely it wouldn't.

The cost of the transmission would depend on the state above as well as the Year, Make, and Model of your car.

heres exactly what not to do:
take your parents car when you only have your permit, not your license, when theyre not home, then panic and put it into park when youre driving.
