While i would not complain if we get someone as good as santana if it happens i do feel in my opinion that the pitching we have now is capable of doing the job. Yanks should not give up Hughes who i think is going to be a future star. But i have a feeling it's going to happen so i will wish Hughes the best in Minnesota just not at the expense of the Yankees lol..

I doubt that we will have a 5 for one trade. from what it looks, the deal will involve Hughes, Melky and a prospect, possibly Allen Horne. I like the homegrown talent, and so does Cashman.
But think about this. If the Yankees don't make this deal, then Santana is most likely going to the Red Sox. The Yankees cannot let that happen, because if it does, then we will be facing a team where Josh Beckett is number 2! Santana, Beckett, Dice K?
I like Hughes and Melky, and if Boston were not in the Santana sweepstakes, I wouldn't even care, but Santana must not go to the Red Sox.
But for all we know, the Red Sox could be just driving the price up.
edit: still, it is a rumor website, and I really hope they are wrong this time, and on realgm.com, a more credible website, the word is still three players. The thing is, that the twins cant gamble too much or wait too long, because Santana has that no trade clause in his contract, and has expressed his feelings about playing for the Yankees, with Torri Hunter saying the same, so If the Twins don't settle on anything right now, they will loose him after the next season and will get nothing, so they don't really have that kind of leverage, and will have to deal 3-1 with the Yankees.

It seems like Santana is either going to the Yankees or Red Sox, if he's moving. And from a Yankee fan's perspective, we're in a Catch 22. Damned if we do, damned if we dont. If we do get Santana, there goes a great portion of our farm system. If we dont, and Boston does, then they have an elite pitching rotation, that no team can match. I'm sure Cashman will do what he thinks is right.

WE need an Ace Chien-Mieng Wang is an excellent #2 but not an ace.I would make the deal because if we do well have #1 rotation in league and pitching wins championships.
Also its good to keep them from rivals.
Hughes is quite overated,Melky is gonna be the biggest loss since he has flourished into a star player,Gonzalez wont play SS in NY for at least 8yrs until Jeter retires or goes to 1Base.Besides the rotation is alredy packed if we get santana
1.Santana 2.Wang 3.Pettite 4.Chamberlain 5.Kennedy 6.Mussina 7.Sanchez 8.Igawa so you might as well trade horn for a proven player like santana

If Boston were to get Santana, it will be bad news for every MLB team. Since I'm a Mets fan, Id certainly want Santana, but sadly it will never happen. The yankees will get Santana, although they will def lose Melky and Hughes. Possibly Cano.

Santana to the Yankees for those players is the best deal for them, and Santana to someone other than the Yankees or the Red Sox is a distant second best deal.

The Red Sox and Yankees are willing to sell their futures to rent Santana for one year? There has to be more to it. Either team would have to condition the deal on Santana's agreeing to an extension, meaning millions and millions for many years, a Zito type deal. It just makes no sense.

1) i think its going to be hughes, melky, tabata (really good outfield prospect)
2) I want santana......santana is the best pitcher in all of basebal nd he is only 29
3) heres the rotation assuming pettite retires (that would suck)
1) santana
2) wang
3) joba
4) moose
5) kennedy
4) we have so many pitching prospects horne, marquez (look at the numbers), Jeff Kennard (look at the numbers), McCutchen (look at the numbers), white, clippard (didnt do 2 bad) , wright (has 2 prove himself again), desalvo (not bad), karstins, jones, smith, jackson, sanchez nd more.......we r staked at pitching........nd we have a kid named austin jackson who can be the future yankee outfielder
5) hughes is really good, i love melky, tabata is gonna be great one day but santana is a future all time great we need him
edit: dan haren is going 2 go2 the red sox for crisp nd lester (nd maybe lowerie) because the sox arent willing 2 trade ellsbury instead of crisp in the santana deal....haren is really good but not in the same league as santana believe me we r a lot better off with santana
