Just so you know - the human body is capable of delivering a 13 pound baby vaginally as long as baby and mother have no other health problems to speak of (Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth). Also, ultrasounds to determine the weight of a baby late in pregnancy can be off by as much as 3 pounds either way and doctors usually estimate on the high side (they get more money for c-sections). C-section for me was awful! I wanted a vaginal birth and labored for 24 hours (no drugs) and my baby was stuck. I got a horizontal incision, it was sore for 3 weeks, with lingering nerve pain for several more (I still get nerve pain a few times a week - everyone I know who has had a c-section experiences this). I still can not do crunches or sit-ups to get back into shape and it has been over 5 months since I had my son. It is hard to walk, and if you baby is that big it hurts to hold your baby. Of course I refused to take the pain med because I did not want my baby exposed to any further drugs, but I hated the experience. Definitely breastfeed after wards because it does speed up the healing and contracting of the uterus back down to normal size. Also, it is better if your body is allowed to labor naturally, so a scheduled c-section is just for the ease of the doctors. If I needed another c-section for some reason, I would labor naturally as long as I could - it is best for mom and baby.

C-section is okay at least to safe your life and that of the baby. You are not going to feel any pain during the operation because certain injection/shot should have been administered on you to numb certain area of your body in which you are not going to feel the pain. You are going to experience little pain after then and they will give you some pain relieving drugs to help you. All the pain/wound heals at least by 6 - 8 weeks and don't ever carry anything heavy more that the baby's weight for some time and this will really helped you.

I've had one child vaginally, the next three C-section. I would take C-section any time over vaginally. The C-section will hurt the first time as they cut your stomach muscles. Hold a pillow tightly to your stomach when you cough or laugh, that really helps. Get walking as soon as they let you as you'll heal much quicker. I always took pain meds about 20 to 30 minutes prior to walking. The more you move the better you'll feel. By the 2nd C-section, I went shopping right after leaving the hospital! It's so much easier than labor pains, and the huge cut I received (episiotomy), that took forever to heal. It's the only way to go! I wish you a quick recovery!!!

well, i had a classical, which is where you are cut from belly button to pubic bone. i was very sore for about 2 weeks. was mostly pushed around in a wheel chair! but i also did not take my pain medications, and the nurses will tell you if your body is in pain you will not heal as quickly as you would if you weren't in so much pain. don't fret, you'll do just fine.

you will most likely get cut horizontal. and i hear the recovery is not as bad that was as being cut vertical such as myself. the procedure does not hurt due to meds of course but the getting up part sucks after. WIth my first one i was afraid to stand straight up in fear of tearing my stitches but my second didnt really hurt at all. You get the easy way out or so i hear so relax and congrats
