Hi
Yup..I had cavities..and now I have fillings. Dentists have changed over the years..and they are no longer anything to be afraid of...
At my dentist..All their tools are controlled by you. You hold a pretty cool round dish thing..reminds me of the bottom of the mouse..the ball. I believe it is a sensitivity ball...from what I was told or explained. If you touch it..it controls the scaling tool that takes the plaque off your teeth..so it does not hurt (and actually the way my dentist does it..is by using the tool that sprays water...
Some dentists have lazers that cut away the decay pain free (most pediatric dentists do it this way...I am told). Better then novicane. Quicker also. Some dentists have Tv's on the ceilings and things to look at. So it takes your mind off what is going on.
I like to bring my walkman or Ipod to the dentist..that way I can be relaxed and listening to my stuff..instead of focusing on what they are doing.
Talk to your dentist..they have many tricks up their sleeves these days.
The longer you leave a cavity..the worse damage it can do...it is easier to get it taken care of quickly and pain free.
good luck!

Yeah.. I've had lots, I had soft teeth as a kid. What they did for me each time is they put a needle in my gums which numbed it, then they drilled in my teeth with what looked like one of those tattoo things and put some weird tasting stuff into my mouth.. Yeah. The only painful part is the needle (unless it doesn't numb you completely! that f-in hurts!), but if it's just a normal procedure it's no big deal really.. It might be uncomfortable for them to be in your mouth and your cheeks/mouth area might feel "puffed up" but you'll get over it. You jaw also might be sore. Just close your eyes it's rather boring actually! Root Canals are a different story though!

Cavities aren't too bad...Trust me, they are WAY better than letting them get so bad that you need a root canal!!! JUst expect the dentist to use a pick to clean it out and he may give you a shot inside your mouth but it's not bad. It just feels like a mosquito in the back of your mouth. It's not too bad. If you are really nervous, so dentists will do sedation dentistry. They give you a pill that makes you really happy and you don't really care what's going on.

I have weak enamel on my teeth so just about every molar in my mouth has a filling in it! It can be uncomfortable. They will numb it so it so it shouldn't "hurt" but there may be pressure. Don't be afraid to stop them and tell them if it does hurt. Basically it is just uncomfortable to have your mouth wide open and the sound of the drill is irritating. Ask for gas, it will help you relax. Good luck, it won't be that bad :)

yeah i had a few of them , I was so scared to go to the dentist and I have waited for a long time and I had to have root canal for that..
it is good that you re not waiting, the more you wait the more it gets worse.
i told my dentist about my fear and he gave me shots(does not hurt at all) and he gave me i pod so I did not hear anything they basically pampered me
at the and I was like if I knew it is gonna be that easy I would come before
anyway, don't be scared talk to your dentist , you will be allright

it doesn't hurt, novacane is good. It takes for like what seems like hours, but really like an hour, it looks like your tooth when it's done and no it doesn't hurt after it;s done. the instrument is alittle scary though, bring ypur Ipod or mp3 player, that helps.
Hope it
s better soom!!! =]

I've had a couple cavities over the years. I remember when I was a kid and it being painful to have the cavity filled. Maybe it was just because I was a kid or maybe it's gotten better because of technology because it doesn't hurt as much anymore.

if you have a good dentist you shouldn't feel a thing but some pushing when he is scraping the decay. to me the needle was the scariest part, but it only felt like a pinch. besides i like the feeling of being numb for an hour.

If it's not a big one it won't take too long at all. And instead of putting silver colored filler in now, they can use a white filling that you really can't even differentiate from your normal tooth color.
