I am about to start cloth diapering my 14 month old. I'm tired of the red lines and rashes. I would like to know what works best and what brands, where to buy (I will probably buy online since I live in a small town, so cheap shipping options would be great). I know there are more options out there now since I was a baby, in fact I've realized there are so many that I'm quite overwhelmed right now. I would like to know the basics of what to buy to get me started. Thanks in advance!

This is a great time to start cloth diapering. Your baby will potty train earlier if they are cloth diapered! And it will solve your diaper rash problems.

I would recommend pocket diapers. They are some of the more expensive kinds of diapers. However, you don't need too many diapers for a 14 month old so it won't be terribly bad price wise! Also, they usually have high resale value, so when you are done they are easy to sell and recoup some of your investment. The benefit of pockets is you can easily adjust the absorbency of the diaper and once stuffed they go on just like a disposable (easy for Dad or other care givers!). They also have a built in stay dry layer most of the time. I highly recommend Hemp inserts as they hold a lot of wetness! Some brands to look at are:
*Happy Heinys
*bumGenius
* Baby Kangas (These are Canadian made by Jamtots and are my favourite pocket diapers!)
*Fuzzi Bunz
*Wonderoos
*Swaddlebees

Two things to watch for if your baby still has redness and rash after switching to cloth:

* Some babies are allergic to fleece or suede cloth which is often the layer against the baby in pocket diapers. Swaddlebees uses velour instead and make really nice trim pocket diapers and all-in-ones.

*Make sure you use detergent free of perfume, dyes and enzymes. I like to use Tide Free on the diapers and all of our clothes. DO NOT use bleach, fabric softeners, dryer sheets or optical brighteners. Always make sure diapers are well rinsed so there is no detergent residue on them, this can cause leaking and rash.

Some sites have starter packs so you can try a few different diapers with a savings. There are even some sites that provide a test pack of diapers that you rent for a week or two and then give back and even some give you a coupon to buy the diapers that you liked from them. I am in Canada and shop on Canadian websites, but here are some that I like:
www.jamtots.com
www.extraordinarybabyshoppe.com
www.forbabywithlove.ca
www.tadpoles.ca

There are a lot of choices, and everyone has their favorites. My advise would be to buy a few, of a few different types and experiment a bit. If you don't mind used, you can find lots on ebay.

For a 14 month old, you'll need something more absorbent than what you'd use for a smaller baby. I really liked the Under The Nile fitted diapers for my toddler. I used a Stacinator wool cover during the day, and an Aristocrats wool cover at night.

These sites have some good info:

Starting out material diapering may be very functional. This is the simplest approach I knew to do it :) You can purchase a few Bummi's diaper quilt's on-line, and a few toddler prefold diapers. The unbleached ones appear to paintings the exceptional. Then you'll be able to purchase a few Snappi's to make use of rather of pins to preserve your little one's diaper in situation. These are excellent. The wash is convenient. Tip out the poop in the bathroom. You can retailer them in a diaper can. Then whilst you're capable to scrub do a bloodless rinse first. Then do an overly sizzling wash with most effective approximately a million/three of the traditional detergent. Then do another bloodless wash on the finish. I consider Bummi's are well for beginning out. They aren't essentially the most typical diaper quilt, however they are going to get you began. Later you might check out wool, and a few fancy smancy ones. ETA: Somebody loves to provide random thumbs down on right here. I simply desired to let you know the simplest used to be I knew the way to do it. I might check out something at a time till making a decision what works so far as fancy or high-priced diapers pass. ETA: Seventh Generation Diapers can also be high priced for those who have to get monetary savings. They are well on get together, however can also be luxurious. The G Diapers don't seem to be pass excellent on the bathroom :)

14 months old why don't you try potty training ? We have a pharmacy that makes a diaper rash cream , there's no name but it is amazing stuff.See if you local pharmacy might have one to try. I don't recommend cloth diapers, yes there's no diaper in a dump some where but you use something stupid like 34 000 gallons of water to wash those cloth diapers.Either way , hope you find a solution.
