Having been a lardlord myself in the past I would rather the tenant inform me that they a have a problem, and accept a post dated cheque.
If you can give a little now you may be able to give your landlord 2 cheques - 1 with what you can afford immediately (to keep him happy), and he can then bank the balance cheque on Friday.
Landlords are approachable and as long as you dont make a habit of late paying you should be OK.
Call him now - its better than him getting a bounced cheque back.

If you have overdraft protection it will be covered for a fee of course usually around 30-40 dollars. No overdrafts are not reported to the credit agencies as some have stated. Check with your landlord if it is only a couple of days he will charge you a small late fee, the important part is keep in communication if you have been a good tenant he might even wave that. Call him explain the situation and go from there

You will receive an overdraft charge from the rental establishment and a bounced check fee from the bank. Around $70-$100 Your rent will still not be paid, unless you have overdraft protection set up at the bank. You will then have a blemish on your credit that is very expensive later. Try to borrow the money and get it in the bank as soon as possible. Don't be ashamed to ask for help.
Good luck
Take care.

It depends on your bank, most banks usually charge some overdraft fee.
As for your landlords, I think there is 5 day grace period when it comes to rent, but you would have to check your state laws for that. If you really don't want to have a bounced check, nor have your landlord accuse you of not paying rent, I would pay what you can now, pay the rest on friday, explain your situation and next month, remember when your rent is due and make sure you have the money ahead of time.

You could talk to your landlord and ask him if he can wait to cash the check until you have the money in the bank...or you can get an advance from your credit card if you have one and pay that credit card on friday. Usually landlords give you the first 5 days for free, then charge you 25$ for a late fee if not paid by the 5th.

@Jones - Calling you out in this one. there is not any regulation, in any state, that provide a purchaser 7 days to return a used motor vehicle. era. the only exceptipon is California. under some very particular circumstances, a broking is had to *sell* teh purchaser a 40 8 HOUR return insurance insurance. In the different state interior the U. S.< there is not any regulation givoing the customer a ideal to retrun. nicely, not fullyyt genuine - if a broking consists of your place, conducts the transaction on your kitchen table, and leaves the motor vehicle on your driveway, you have 3 days. Now @ Asker -no, you cant get the money back. each and every thing this is erroneous with the motor vehicle ideal now replaced into wrojng while he looked at it. He negotiated a deal on teh motor vehicle he replaced into shown, interior the condition it replaced into presented. not something you point out will ward off him attending to artwork and back. So he has transportation and a useful lesson in motor vehicle procuring

Usually the rent really isn't due until the 5th. Then after that it is late. Unfortunately the 5th is before Friday. Try to pay what you can and talk to your land lord about it. I'm sure this isn't a habit for you and you can explain the situation to the person in charge. Promise that it wont happen again.

You will get at least two charges.. And those amounts are up to the landlord and bank.
Your landlord will charge you for the bad check.
And the Bank will also charge you.
The amounts could be anywhere from $25.-$30. each maybe higher.

Give your landlord a postdated check or date it for today & ask him to hold until Friday. Next time, plan better for paying your rent on time.

Do not issue a bad check. Pay your rent late. Read your lease for late payment penalty rules. Do not pay the late payment penalty unless they ask for it.
