Okay so for the past few weeks I have had a very sharp pain at the top of my spine where my neck starts. It all began at my new job with how I am sitting at my desk and computer. The chair they gave me is horrible (they have now ordered me a new one which hasn't arrived yet) but the pain I have felt has been terrible. Anyway, for the past 2 days now I have been feeling pain in my fingertips and a couple of my toes. Just the first three fingers which I read online means it could be from a pinched nerve. Now I saw that the back of my neck is completely swollen!!! Does this sound like a pinched nerve to you and that is what is causing the pain in my hands? When I touch the bumpy swollen area, it's tender. What can I do to relieve this pain? I am going to the doctor on Monday for sure. Hopefully it's nothing serious :(

It could be a pinched nerves by what you say about the fingers, but it typically doesn't have the swollen, tender and bumpy areas at the neck. That could be a pulled muscle. Get yourself a heating pad and use it 20 minutes every hour or two (well within your life constraints). It'll help relax the muscles. Do range of motion exercises with your neck. Roll your neck around fully: chin to chest, to your shoulder to the back, the other shoulder and back down. You can take any over the counter antinflamatory like Motrin, Alleve, etc. Good luck!

Change what you sit in--add pillows to get it to the right height, to stop the continual wrong angle you're working from. You need to be proactive with this. Steal someone else's chair if need be--fingers and toes means there's a real need to fix the angle you work from.

I think it's because of your position at work. I don't think it could be something that simple changes and treatment won't help.

But I'm no medical person, so I wish you the best. :)
