#1 tighten belt to proper tension. If it has more than one belt, - get the right one.
#2 If that doesn't work go buy "belt dressing", and spray a little on, - it will make surface of belt "tacky" and it will
be harder for it to slip!
If you don't know how to tighten belt, - take it to a garage, or get somebody with some mechanical aptitude to do it for you! It takes less than 10 minutes on the most difficult car to do it on!
It would not be the worst thing you could do to go buy a "Haines Auto Repair manual"(for your year and model car),-- which is available at most auto parts supply stores! It will tell you how to do most maintainance work on entire auto, -and if you have someone with a little knowledge, - they can read the book and find out how to do things! You can also buy "belt dressing" at most auto suply stores, and in automotive section of "bigger stores", - of WalMart type!!

Er, you particular its a fanbelt? autos have not had fanbelts for years? i assume you propose the Auxiliary force belt that runs off the crankshaft and onto the alternator? Belts should be dry, lubricating them is the perfect problem you should do. by ability of including WD40 you're lubricating it, while what you genuinely want it to do is grip better, because the squeeling is the belt slipping around the pulley as its no longer tight sufficient. Slacken the alternator mount, slide the alternator outwards and retighten. That'll kind the squeeling out. If youre on the decrease of stress then you honestly want a sparkling belt. it would want to look positive yet they stretch over the years. they in basic terms £15 to relplace besides.

While you are having your car serviced (oil change, filter, air filter) Have them tighten up the belt or replace it. This way you are getting it repaired for less money. Taking the car in just for the belt being tightened will be more costly than having the above done too. And a lot of times you can get it done as being a good customer for free.

The best way is to tighten it up. Sometimes all you can do is replace it. A few drops of dish soap will quiet it down for a day or two. If its a serpentine belt, sometimes the idler pulley can squeal.

Depends what kind of car (serp belt or fan belt). If it's a drive belt try having it tightened, if it's a serpentine belt check the tensioner.

usually a belt squeals due to poor tension, oil or other contaminants on the belt, component is wearing out, or the belt is wearing out.
you should really have a mechanic check it out
but belts should be replaced every three or four years anyway just for maintenance

Two ways, you could replace it which isn't very expensive. Or, you could spray on some belt dressing. It's basically a coating that makes it tacky and therefore less slippery.
