Okay so I've known this kid for a year or so and we've been bestfriends since I met him. Of course, he HAS to "try" weed and now he does it ALL THE TIME. And he's changed and is a totally different person from when I met him. I've already caught him in numerous lies and he has no clue what he's getting himself in to since he's only 15. And when I try to tell him that I think he needs to stop, he gives me the thing every stoner says "When it gets out of hand, I'll know!". Everytime I try to talk to him about it, he's like "well you explain why drinking is okay" when I've quit drinking.. I'm seriously just about to eliminate him from my life and move on but I don't know.. What do you think? Should I leave him or keep him..

You guys are all right. I personally don't think drinking is bad for your health as marijuana is. It's obvious that weed is bad when you can get locked up for it.

Tell him he won't know when it is out of hand, because he has proven it already - it already IS out of hand, if he is doing it all the time. Tell him that who your friends are says a lot about you, so that if all he is going to do is get stoned, lie, & argue about it, there really is no future to your friendship. He needs to know that you care about him, but that you see that he has a problem; he has changed in a bad way, and you don't want to be part of it. Be calm and firm and deliberate. If he doesn't want to stop, then eliminate him. And yeah, you can explain why drinking is NOT okay, which is why you stopped! Substance abuse is just about trying to numb yourself and escape from your problems. If he has changed, then that says a lot - and he needs to know that.
